Three research lines. One platform.

The research consists of three complementary research lines. Click through to each part for the full results, step-by-step plans and general recommendations — or open the digital tool straight away.

Flat roof, pitched roof, facade, floor, basement, interior wall, from storage

5-55 years

Age range of the insulation material tested

Dismantling

How do you remove insulation intact from an existing construction?

Within the project, research was carried out into dismantling: on location at the construction site, but also through input from contractors and demolition firms via interviews and workshops. On the full page we explain each aspect via clickable headings, with links to further explanation.

Performance assessment

How well does insulation still perform after years of use?

The project investigated the remaining performance, per type of insulation. We measure various technical parameters of dismantled insulation under standardised lab conditions and compare them with the manufacturer's original specifications.

Where is recovered insulation best applied?

The project investigated reuse potential. Not every combination of insulation type and building element is equally feasible — we provide a matrix and a detailed risk analysis for each combination of insulation and building element.
