Pitched roof renovation of a former convent
20,000 m² of pressure-resistant rock wool from a flat roof on an industrial building was dismantled in the spring of 2026. The insulation was tested by Buildwise. The insulation was purchased via materials trader TROVO to insulate a pitched roof in a former convent. The insulation is still in excellent condition, but is only 7 cm thick. It therefore had to be installed in 3 layers.
For the renovation of an attic in a private home in a former convent, the owner went looking for recovered insulation. The owner contacted TROVO and in the spring of 2026 it became clear that a large batch of rock wool would become available from an industrial roof. The rock wool insulation was tested by Buildwise and met the necessary technical requirements. In August 2026 the insulation was delivered and the client, together with a local contractor, was able to start reintegrating the insulation in the pitched roof of the home.
Matching
Because a large batch of good-quality rock wool insulation is becoming available, it is possible to order and install the same insulation for large surface areas. The insulation reused here comes from a flat roof of an industrial building.
Installation
Together with a contractor, the client installed the insulation in three layers. An additional timber structure was added to the existing construction so the insulation could be fitted in between. This was pressure-resistant rock wool, as it came from a flat roof. As a result, all boards had to be cut to size to fit between the structure, since they are hardly compressible, if at all.
