Glass wool for a garden outbuilding
Glass wool 12-15 cm thick was removed during the dismantling of the homes of housing company Dimensa. It was ideal for insulating the walls and roof of a building in a garden that is not subject to EPB requirements.
Three Bachelor in Construction students carried out a trial dismantling of a pitched roof in a social housing unit in Sint-Martens-Latem. The students tested different ways of removing the mineral insulation from the roof. One of the findings was that the insulation next to the window showed visible damage (black discolouration), while the insulation in the middle of the roof/ceiling showed no visible damage. Another important point of attention was the need to ventilate the space during dismantling.
New life
After the students' test, the insulation was found to be good enough to dismantle this type from all the homes. Via TROVO the glass wool was brought back onto the market, and the insulation now gets a new life insulating the walls and flat roof of an outbuilding in a garden.
