From a pitched roof to a facade.
Social housing that no longer met the standards was used as a test case to try out different dismantling methods. The students tested various methods, kept track of the time and documented the damage. They mapped everything and wrote recommendations and guidelines based on their practical research.
Dismantling
In the autumn of 2024, the triangular rock wool insulation boards from a pitched roof were successfully dismantled by Bachelor in Construction students. When it became clear that the insulation was still in excellent condition, easily accessible, and that a large quantity was still present in the other roofs, reuse trader TROVO was contacted. In the spring of 2025 the rest of the insulation was then dismantled and transported to storage.
Testing
The insulation was tested for thermal conductivity and water absorption. You can find the test results in the case 'Rock wool (1995) - 12 cm - pitched roof'.
Reintegration
Via Huismus a construction site was quickly found where the rock wool could be reintegrated as external facade insulation.
