Dismantling cellulose from a passive house
For the project Build, DE-Build & RE-Build, a circular construction initiative by BLAF architecten, the Verbeke Foundation, Thomas More, UGent and Aclagro, a house was completely dismantled. Not only the structure and the finishing materials were dismantled, but also the insulation.
The timber frame was filled with blown-in cellulose, both the roof structure and the walls. To dismantle it, the insulation was sucked back out of the frame structure using the same process and collected in big bags. The UGent lab, the Buildwise lab and the producer (Isoproc) all tested the insulation. This made it clear that the test results depend heavily on the test method and the density.
